V-Belts was commonly known as a “fan belt,” is a rubber belt that drives things such as the alternator, air conditioning compressor, power steering pump and water pump. It is called a V-belt because of its “V” shaped cross-section. The sides of the belt grip the pulleys wherein some belts have notches in them to increase the grip, to help cool the belt and relieve stress as the belt bends around a small diameter of the pulleys.
